Moving In
Check that the keys can be released to you. This is usually once the transfer of funds has been confirmed. Once this is done, you have a new home and can move in.
Take anything that you need from your Easy Life Pack.
The first task is to read the meters. There is a pen and paper in your Easy Life Pack.
The second task is to check for any notes on your utilities. Oh dear, either you should have looked for your new home on The-PropertyLadder.com or your seller has been lax.
The third task is usually cleaning. Unglamorous but you will be pleased that you did it. If you are able to decorate or renovate and improve as well, that is a bonus; most of us can’t manage that as well though. If you are so organised that you did, please tell us how and we’ll share your secret.
Get your appliances working, particularly your freezer if you have any frozen food being moved. Anything that has begun to thaw must be used immediately or thrown out. Do not risk your health by refreezing food. We would like you to visit the site in future!
If you have a removal firm, check that no damages occur. If anything does, you should know what action to take and who to pursue any claim with. In all cases you will need to tell the removal company immediately and this may be required in writing.
Once everything is unloaded, hopefully where you wanted it, you can thank you removal team and send them home. Check that they have left everything in the house before doing this. This includes keys, if they had a set.
